Natsuko is a widow who has lost her beloved husband and is in despair. Having lost sight of the meaning of life, she wanders the countryside in search of a place to die. Concerned about Natsuko's vacant expression, Takuya, an employee at an inn, approaches her and speaks to her. "If you haven't decided where to go, why don't you stay at our inn?" he invites her, and Natsuko decides to stay, thinking that it might not be a bad idea to soak in a hot spring before she dies.
